In just a few short years, Barbie Ferreira has managed to change the way the world sees models. The brown-eyed, raven-haired stunner came to modeling through her job as an American Apparel sales associate where she worked near her mother’s suburban, New Jersey home. It was through a shoot with the esteemed Petra Collins that led to a collaborative relationship between the two and Barbie subsequently signing with IMG Models. Seemingly overnight, the girl who spent her high school years sneaking into fashion parties was now a professional model.
Barbie’s striking beauty, vivacious personality and refusal to live by the standards of others has not only led to more work with Collins, but also with other emerging artists as well as appearances in Teen Vogue, iD, CR Fashion Book, Wonderland and W. Barbie further develops a body of work with catalogue, online retailer and advertising clients including appearances in campaigns for Aero and Prabal Gurung x Lane Bryant. With over 400,000 followers on Instagram, Barbie frequently engages with her audience and is fearless in her take on empowerment, cyber-bullying, and body shaming.
Born in New York City, the only child of parents who emigrated from Brazil, Barbie was raised in Maywood, New Jersey and as a child, dreamed of being an actress. By the age of 10, she was submitting her own headshots to castings, and would later study Meisner technique at the Actor’s Studio. Perhaps thanks in part to her fierce independence, Barbie caught the attention of casting directors who began to submit her for both film and television projects. As fate would have it, one such casting became a callback, followed by confirmation that Barbie’s childhood dream would soon be a reality when she makes her acting debut on the second season of HBO’s Divorce this fall.
Most recently, Barbie made her directorial debut with the music video "So Cool" starring social media superstar and artist Dounia. In addition, Barbie continues to build off her message of free-thinking and empowerment with her Broadly TV Series "How to Behave". When off-duty, Barbie enjoys spending her time with her family, hanging out in her Brooklyn neighborhood, DJ-ing parties, watching documentaries with friends and of course, keeping up to date with social media.
