Cited by The Hollywood Reporter as one of the top 25 stylists of 2015, Maxwell works across the fields of music, celebrity and fashion, having acted as fashion director to Lady Gaga since 2012 and debuted his ownname fashion collection at New York Fashion Week in September 2015. Surrounded by images of powerful, immaculately dressed women from the outset, the young Maxwell pored over fashion magazines at his grandmother’s boutique in Longview, Texas, before starting to customize outfits for early styling experiments he staged while still at school. Going on to study editorial photography at St. Edward’s University in Austin he began assisting stylist Deborah Afshani in 2009, followed by Edward Enninful then Nicola Formichetti in 2010, who was then Lady Gaga’s fashion director. Maxwell took over the role in 2012 and set up as a freelance stylist soon after – gradually shifting the singer’s signature style towards a more classically sophisticated aesthetic – meanwhile contributing to magazines such as Teen Vogue and V, where his combination of timeless glamour and sporty, wearable clothing paved the way for his much-lauded fashion line in 2015. Maxwell now balances his time between the atelier and the photo studio, enjoying creative relationships with leading photographers Inez & Vinoodh, Paola Kudacki, Giampaolo Sgura, Terry Richardson and Steven Klein as well as with celebrity collaborators Taylor Swift, Yoko Ono, Orlando Bloom and Charlize Theron.
