Bio: Calvin Royal III began his formal training at the Pinellas County Center for the Arts at Gibbs High School in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was a finalist at the Youth America Grand Prix Scholarship Competition in NYC in April 2006 and received the Ethan Stiefel Scholarship to attend the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theatre in September of that year. Royal joined ABT's main Company in April 2011. Since joining Royal has been featured in many of the company's classical and contemporary ballets, most notably in works by Mark Morris, Twyla Tharp, Christopher Wheeldon, Alexei Ratmansky, and Jessica Lang. In January 2014, Royal was nominated for the Clive Barnes Award, and named one of Dance Magazine's "Top 25 to Watch". And most recently promoted to the title of Soloist with the American Ballet theatre. In addition to his time at ABT, Royal has appeared in numerous works at the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, Nantucket Antheneum Dance Festival, and Vail International Dance Festival. He was the winner of a grant from the Leonore Annenberg Fellowship Fund, and has appeared in many publications including Dance Magazine, Dance Europe Magazine, Pointe Magazine, FLATT Magazine, New York Magazine's REASONS TO LOVE NY Edition, DETAILS Magazine, TIME Style and Design, and The Art of Movement a book by NYC Dance Project. He has been reviewed in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and other news sources for his performances with American Ballet Theatre. Most recently appearing GAP Fit’s dance inspired fitness line.
