Huntington Beach, California native Jasmine Tookes is perhaps best known as one of the Victoria’s Secret Angels. In 2016, Tookes made history as the first woman of color to wear the coveted “Fantasy Bra” - worth an estimated $3 million dollars - in over ten years.
‘Jas’, as she is affectionately referred to, was officially discovered at age sixteen while “pulling” showroom garments in Los Angeles with her mother, a noted celebrity stylist and image consultant. At the time, her only modeling credit was an Abercrombie and Fitch advertising campaign she’d shot two years prior with Bruce Weber.
Tookes received her big break—albeit, one of many – during the Fall 2012 season courtesy Francisco Costa and Miuccia Prada. She walked Calvin Klein Collection in New York and Prada in Milan, one of only a few brown-skinned young women on either runway at the time. Select international catwalk highlights include Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Balmain, Tom Ford, Ferragamo, Oscar de la Renta, and Ralph Lauren.
Shortly thereafter, Tookes sat for photographer Craig McDean on the occasion of her first Vogue US layout and again for her first GAP jeans advertising campaign. Steven Meisel enlisted the raven-haired beauty for yet another Vogue US portfolio. Celebrated lenswomen Ellen von Unwerth and Emma Summerton followed suit capturing Tookes for multiple editorial features in Vogue Italia. Summerton, especially enraptured with the American model’s indescribable charisma, mesmerizing gaze, and feline athleticism, found her muse and cast Tookes in miscellaneous projects and fashion stories for Pop, and W magazines.
In addition to the aforementioned image-makers, Tookes has worked with Patrick Demarchelier, Peter Lindbergh, Nathaniel Goldberg, and Thierry le Goues. Additional editorial credits include Vogue Germany and Paris, Interview, Numéro, V, Glass, and The Last Magazine, former Vogue Paris editor Carine Roitfeld’s CR Fashion Book, and Tooke’s first-ever magazine cover, Elle France.
Tookes’ career has plenty legs in both the luxury and commercial markets. She has walked Giambattista Valli Haute Couture, Giorgio Armani, and Marc Jacobs, in addition to Rag and Bone, H&M and Victoria’s Secret. In 2012, Tookes became a brand ambassador for the intimate apparel behemoth, walked its annual supermodel-filled runway show, and appeared in print and television advertising campaigns shot and directed by Russell James and Michael Bay. Currently, Tookes stars in the Calvin Klein Eternity Now fragrance campaign by Cass Bird.
In addition to serving as the face of countless beauty campaigns, Tookes is quite the makeup aficionado herself. She previously ran a makeup Instagram account where she demonstrated her best looks and gained a whopping 10 thousand followers. She' since incorporated beauty talk into her personal account, regularly showing off her glam for the day and interacting with her beauty-obsessed followers.
