Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native Hari Nef is a celebrated actress and model best known for her work on Amazon’s Emmy award-winning series Transparent. Hari, who was raised in Newton, Massachusetts, is the first openly trans woman to sign an international modeling contract.
Hari, a Columbia University graduate, received her first of many “breaks” while interning at various fashion companies and design firms during her college years in New York City. While studying, she befriended the industry’s new guard of photographers and stylists who, over time, hired her as a model. These include Adam Selman, Nicola Formichetti, and Robbie Spencer, as well as perennial heavyweights Camilla Nickerson, and Joe McKenna.
To date, Hari has appeared on the covers of Interview, Wonderland, and the September issue of Elle UK, photographed by Gregory Harris, Terry Richardson, and Bjarne Jonasson, respectively. In addition to the aforementioned, she has worked with Inez & Vinoodh, Patrick Demarchelier, Alasdair McLellan, Collier Schorr, Mikael Jansson, and Sebastian Faena, as well as Glen Luchford and Nan Goldin. Select editorial credits, meanwhile, include features in Vogue, V, CR Fashion Book, Candy, and Dazed.
Hari made her runway debut in one of Alessandro Michele’s acclaimed shows for Gucci in Milan and walked in shows for Hood By Air during New York Fashion Week, and H&M in Paris. She also appeared in series of promotional images for VejasKruszewski, the 19-year-old LVMH Prize-Winner.
Off-duty, Hari enjoys reading plays, watching films, and dancing. She’s also and outspoken activist and is actively involved with the National Center for Trans Equality.
